The Santiago cutlery is the continuation of the Tonale tableware. With Santiago, Chipperfield once again attaches great importance to the reduced form and the high-quality material. The outstanding simplicity combined with a very soft feel make the design so surprising. The pieces are made entirely of stainless steel and are polished to a shine, and in the case of two-tone, vapor coated with a nanometer delicate layer. (PVD coating)
The PVD process is a gaseous thin-film technology, which results in fine, edgeless material application and allows the PVD layer to contrast elegantly with the stainless steel. David Chipperfield is considered the architect of large city projects as well as small family houses. He has been self-employed since 1984 and founded the architectural firm David Chipperfield Architects. Today he has offices in London, Berlin and Milan as well as a representative office in Shanghai. In Berlin he became known to the public with projects such as the reconstruction of the New Museum and the Berlin Museum Island. In 2009, Queen Elisabeth knighted Chipperfield, honoring his achievements as an architect.
